Week 11: Website Making, Novel Thinking

Hey Lads,
In this week’s blog, I am going to reflect on making my website for the module and I was a lot of fun so let’s get stuck in.

The idea I chose for my website would be to channel my inner dork and create a website for a fictional bookstore called A Novel Idea (pun very much intended).

I chose the idea cause I am an avid reader and I thought I would enjoy the process a lot more if It was in a business that I would possibly support. Which I did. It was a great joy coming up with ideas for the place such as the purpose-built reading room and the book-club.

To give a proper reflection on the process however, I found the learning process hard at first. I chose WordPress to use for it as I had some familiarity with it but I think I wasn’t prepared for the questions I had to ask myself. Questions such as:

  • What colours class and fonts don’t class?
  • Am I getting the point of this page to potential customers?
  • Is the website selling the bookstore?
  • How easy is it to navigate the site?

I think I expected the assignment to challenge my technical skills but I found my creative thinking and problem solving was a lot more engaged than the previous. I suppose when it comes down to it, in Multimedia the tech or media might change but skills to adapt and think on your feet will never fail you.

Would you visit A Novel Idea? (Source: https://novelideasbook.wordpress.com/)

I found the process much easier when I noticed this and started to flex those mental muscles.

Anywhoo, I think I did a pretty okay job of the process. I hope my assessors agree.
