Week 10: English Readings.

Hey guys, It has been a mad week for me in total but I am making it through these odd times of lockdowns like everyone else.

Today I want to talk about something I have always done and it is reading!

One of the most exciting things about my course is that I get to do a minor in English Literature which for me would my second choice course (probably be a higher preference but journalism degree seems more versatile). So this week has been an absolute treat for me to do my course work which was to research sources for my English essay.

The essay I chose to do was on Gender in Macbeth so I found myself engrossed in the ideas of the play. It’s so fascinating for me to almost live with these fictional in your head and have them picked apart to give you insight in your own life.

The research I have doing has me looking at the masculine and feminine in characters of Macbeth but that has widened a little bit and I have been curious about what a real masculine or feminine trait is in our modern times.

Clip from Macbeth(2015) from Studio Cannel UK. It’s not hard to love Macbeth when you got Michael Fassbender to convince you, isn’t it?

I suppose this was what Mr. Shakespeare was trying to invoke in us and it’s really interesting to be able to approach a text over 400 years old and still glean something from it and find relevant topics applicable to life today.

I feel so happy that I have taken English as my full elective for next year and got stop getting giddy with what’s next on my reading list!
